We live in a new world — one that our parents and grandparents couldn’t have possibly prepared us for. We all carry electronic rectangles inside our pockets, we battle for social status through the use of images and like counts, and many of us now find our romantic partners through the use of algorithms on dating apps.

Social media. Pornography. Video games. News media. Advertising. Search engines. Smartphones. Podcasts. So many new technologies have been introduced to us, yet nobody has educated us on how to live alongside them.

How can we live fulfilled lives in a world filled with addictive media? How can we protect our mental well-being amongst so many technologies that our brain is not evolved to deal with? How can you use technology, without technology using you? What you need is a guide, and it just so happened that such a guide lies within the pages of this book.

In this book, you will learn about:

  • How to live a fulfilling and satisfying life alongside technology

  • How the media can ruin your life

  • Porn — it’s addictive nature and what to do about it

  • Video games how they’re designed to be addictive

  • How the news really works

  • How Advertising and Propaganda works

  • Online dating — Why it’s unfair and how it’s affecting your mindset

  • Why the world has become so politically unstable over the past 5 years

  • How the media messes with your body image

  • And countless other pieces of invaluable life-improving knowledge.

The truth is: I put my heart and soul into this book. Ever since I was 18 years old, the media has pissed me off. For the longest time, I could never put my finger on exactly why I felt this way. After a decade of wondering, thinking and reading; I believe I now have knowledge that very few other people in the world do.

Unlike those of older generations, I grew up alongside all of these new technologies. As the internet matured and grew, so did I. So unlike most other books you’ll find on the shelf, this one is written by someone who has personally experienced all of the problems outlined in the book. The older generations can’t understand what it’s like to grow up alongside countless numbers of highly addictive and mentally destabilising technologies. I can.

For most people, media and technology sit in the background of their every day lives; never to be considered or dissected. But for me, I’m obsessed with this topic. All of the knowledge I’ve gained over the years, by putting the media under my own personal microscope is contained within the pages of this book.

As well as 11 chapters and 430 pages of content, the book also contains 5 short fictional stories that help to outline the points made in the book.

WHAT OTHERS HAVE SAID:

“One of the most important books you could read in the 21st century This is a topic that many of us know there are issues with, but not nearly enough light is shed upon this in present times. Media Vs Reality – A Guide To The New World does a fantastic job exploring every corner of the dark underbelly of our technology infused world and how it affects us day in and day out. You are what you consume, and this book shows just how the media subtly manipulates us and uses us for profit. I highly recommend this to everyone young and old, this book teaches subjects that should hold upmost importance in our society”. – Daniel M

“I hate that this makes so much sense. The book can be quite difficult to read in that it tells you a lot of hard truths about yourself that you probably don’t want to hear. The author has turned what is otherwise quite an academic topic into something much more relatable that delves deep into our habits regarding technology and media. Becoming aware of and identifying our issues is the first step on the road to self-improvement, and the author gives plenty of interesting allegories and studies to help us understand ourselves and our dependencies much better. I am glad the author chooses not to shy away from the more difficult topics, but instead uses them well to reinforce the core concepts he puts across” – Jamie Furlong
